Pieces can be switched off

Chat, Boards and Docs can each be turned off per bothy. We resisted this for a while, on the grounds that a product with four pieces should be used as four pieces. Then we watched a bookkeeping client who wanted time and invoices and nothing else, and who was paying for the visual noise of three features they would never open.

Turning a piece off hides it for everyone in that bothy, not just the owner. A half-hidden feature is worse than either state.

Rate overrides for a single month

Billing can now override a contractor’s markup for one month without editing their record. Previously the only way to handle a one-off arrangement was to change the rate, bill, and remember to change it back — which is exactly the kind of thing nobody remembers.

The override carries an amber flag on the crew record and on the invoice until it is reset, so the exception is visible rather than silently permanent.

Boards on a phone

Four columns and a sideways scroll is a desktop idea. On a phone the board became a pager: one column at a time, swipe across. It is the same board, and it is now usable one-handed, which is how most people check work they are not currently doing.

Docs collections

Runbooks and client terms group into collections, and opening one reads like opening a thread rather than navigating a tree. Folders invite hierarchy, hierarchy invites arguments about hierarchy, and none of that helps the new person trying to find how invoicing works.
